Team & Group Development Coaching in Bristol

Hi, I’m James O’Halloran. I work with teams in Bristol and across the UK who want to connect, collaborate, and enjoy working together.

My team coaching isn’t about gimmicks or trust falls. It’s about creating space for honest conversations, spotting what’s getting in the way, and building practical ways to work better as a team. The result? Teams that communicate clearly, make decisions together, and move forward with energy and confidence.

What is Team & Group Development Coaching?

Team and group development coaching is more than a workshop or a “fun day out.”

It’s about helping your team understand how they work together, uncover obstacles, and develop practical ways to collaborate more effectively.

These sessions give teams the space to reflect, reset, and take real action.

The goal is simple: a high-performing team that can work well together and deliver results for your organisation.

Coaching is particularly useful if your team is new, facing conflicts, or struggling to bring diverse personalities together.

Or, you are just looking for the next performance edge.

Common Team Challenges

Teams often encounter issues that hinder performance and morale. Communication can break down, productivity can dip, and small conflicts can grow into bigger problems. Sometimes it’s a lack of trust or clarity about roles, other times it’s simply that people aren’t aligned on priorities.

You might want to consider team coaching if you notice any of these:

  • People are avoiding meetings or not contributing openly
  • Deadlines are being missed or objectives aren’t being met
  • Team members struggle to understand or use each other’s strengths

When these things happen, my coaching gives your team the chance to reconnect, work through tensions, and create a shared understanding of how to succeed together.

How Does Team & Group Development Coaching Help Your Organisation?

Team development coaching helps to build a culture where people can thrive and organisations can grow sustainably.

The teams I work with notice stronger collaboration, clearer communication, and better alignment with business goals.

Plus they just enjoy going to work more.

They feel invested in and people make more sense and propose less of a threat (or frustration) to them at work.

Some of the most impactful benefits include:

  • Turning conflicts into opportunities for growth
  • Boosting trust and engagement across the team
  • Unlocking motivation and productivity

Beyond these, coaching also encourages accountability, reduces stress, and helps teams focus on what matters most.

Each session is tailored to your team’s specific needs, so both individuals and the group as a whole gain from the experience.

Impact on Individuals

While team outcomes are the focus, the sessions also have a real effect on the individuals involved.

Participants often notice growth in confidence, resilience, and problem-solving abilities.

Key individual benefits include:

  • Greater confidence to share ideas and take initiative
  • Improved understanding of personal strengths and how to contribute effectively
  • Reduced stress through better communication and collaboration.

These changes ripple through the team, helping create a more supportive and high-performing environment.

What is Lego Serious Play?

Some challenges are best explored creatively.

LEGO® Serious Play is a hands-on approach where participants build models to represent ideas, problems, or goals.

It’s used by organisations like Google and NASA to get teams thinking differently and sharing insights that wouldn’t come up in a normal conversation.

Through LEGO Serious Play, teams can explore questions such as:

  • What are our barriers to high performance, and how can we overcome them?
  • What opportunities are there for growth in the near- and distant- future?
  • How can the team work together more effectively?

It’s a playful, engaging way to help teams uncover hidden potential, remove impediments, and work together more effectively.

Success Stories

Teams across Bristol and the South West have seen real transformation through coaching:

3Sixty – Leadership teams gained clarity on priorities, made bold decisions, and strengthened collaboration.

Swoop Patagonia – Global teams aligned on goals, improved communication, and worked together more effectively.

These stories show how coaching turns challenges into opportunities, helping teams grow, collaborate, and deliver results together.

About James

I’ve spent my life exploring what makes people tick, how they evolve and work best together. I’ve built businesses, launched funded startups, and worked across industries around the world. My experience includes:

  • Programmer in Silicon Valley age 20, during the dot-com bubble
  • Running a bespoke furniture business
  • Launching tech startups and managing projects
  • Retraining across multiple roles

Coaching came into my life organically. Someone I interviewed once asked to pay me to keep talking.

I hadn’t trained formally yet, but it clicked, this was the work I wanted to do. I’ve been coaching ever since, mainly with founders, creatives, and people changing the(ir) status quo.

I also bring a deep understanding of psychology and team dynamics, drawing on:

  • Internal Family Systems, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis
  • Culture and attachment theory
  • Design Thinking
  • Lean Startups

  • LEGO Serious Play and Gallup Strengths for team collaboration

This blend of experience and insight helps teams communicate better, work together more effectively, and feel more engaged in their work.
